January 25, 2018 marked 45th years of diplomatic relations between Finland and Vietnam. Socio-economical cooperation between the two countries has been promoted and gained tremendous achievements. Finland has also supported Vietnam in many ways including finance aids, technology transfer, etc. Finland and Vietnam have started a new stage of cooperation, which is a relation of equal partnership. In the coming years, boosting cooperation in forestry and education will be main focus.

Application of Technology in Forest Management

One of the main industries that will be promoted and invested by Finnish government in Vietnam is forestry. The forestry export is one of Vietnam’s strengths with highly stable export. According to statistics, export of wooden products of Vietnam increased from 311 million USD in 2000 to 6.92 billion in 2016.

However, the quality and capacity can still be enhanced more if it is possible to improve weakness in management, planning, and use of resources as well as enhancing domestic wood material quality.

In order to completely solve problems, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development under Finnish government sponsor programme has applied the Forest Resourse Monitoring System (FRMS) on the opening ceremony on November 27, 2017. Training classes on selected FORMIS applications were organized to increased competence of forest authorities at national, regional, provincial and local levels. The FRMS using 4.0 technology has changed production measures and helped with a more comprehensive management. All information about forest management, planning is stored, monitored and easily searched, thus saving time, energy and expenses.

Boosting Education Cooperation

Education and training has been always focus of the bilateral cooperation between Finland and Vietnam. Recently, the cooperation has been boosted. With the visit of the Vietnamese Minister of Education to Finland, 17 memoirs were signed between Finnish and Vietnamese universities.
